For all shower remodels, DLC uses the kerdi waterproofing membrane system. This ensures a lifetime of leak free showers. It also eliminates the old method of a rubber membrane overlaid with a mortar bed. These old systems would allow water to be retained within the mortar bed and that may eventually allow mold to grow. When a bathroom has a musty odor, it is often the result of water saturated within the mortar bed. 

That musty odor is eliminated when using the kerdi system.
